My classroom is an autistic support classroom. A typical day is crazy because I never know what to expect. I do know that my students always try hard and capture more and more of my heart each day we spend together. I would love for them to have a nice comfortable place this year to sit and relax.
My school is high-poverty and very limited in funding.
I usually have to buy all materials, sensory included for my students myself. I am looping with my students from last year, which I am very very happy about. They will be 1st graders this year, but I will also be teaching K and 2nd as well. With this wide range of grades I will be relying more on donations to get through the year.
My Project
I want to create a nice rug area with pillows for the students to be able to sit, read, and even sleep if needed during quiet time. The room will be more crowded this year and I have a feeling they will need some alone time and will need something soft and comforting to soothe them when they get over stimulated. The rug will also serve as our circle time area.
The rug and pillows will give our room more of a homely feel.
The floors are hardwood and there is nothing soft in the room. The room really needed a rug last year, but my budget could not afford one after everything else I had to buy for the year. This year I have had to buy other items such as a microwave and refrigerator to serve the students food needs that were not being met by the district.
