My Project
In our small, remote village of Savoonga on St. Lawrence Island, my 4th-grade students come to school eager to learn and grow, despite the many challenges they face. We live in a tight-knit community surrounded by beautiful but harsh conditions. For many families, access to basic school supplies can be difficult due to cost and limited availability. That’s why I’m seeking your help.
This project will provide my students with essential daily items such as water bottles, pencil cases, school bags, and other basic classroom supplies.
These materials may seem small, but they make a big difference in helping my students feel prepared, valued, and ready to focus on learning.
Having their own supplies empowers my students with a sense of ownership and pride. A sturdy bag to carry their work, a water bottle to stay hydrated during the day, and a pencil case to keep their tools organized—these small things help create a sense of normalcy, comfort, and care in our classroom.
