This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My school is a small, rural campus just a few miles from the Mexican border, and it’s a place filled with heart. We recently opened a STEM/STEAM Center to give our 5th through 8th grade students a space where they can learn, create, and explore. More than just academics, this space has become a safe and caring environment where students are encouraged to express themselves and grow as compassionate individuals.
One of our goals is to help students use their creativity to make a positive impact.
This spring, our 7th and 8th graders are taking on a special kindness project: designing and creating small welcome gifts for the incoming 5th grade class. This project helps our older students reflect on their own transition and gives them a chance to make someone else’s experience a little less scary and a lot more special.
Using our 3D printers, students will bring their thoughtful designs to life—turning their ideas into small tokens of encouragement and care. We’ll also hold discussions around empathy, leadership, and how small acts of kindness can create a more welcoming school environment. To make this possible, we are requesting PLA filament so our students can continue creating with purpose.
