Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
During my first year teaching, I realized that students come to school carrying so much from home. Some students have anxiety, some students are worried about their parent's surgery, some students feel angry with their parents.
As a first grade teacher, I want to offer tools for my little students with big emotions.
I let my students know that I was there for them and that I cared. What I found helped my students the most was me creating a welcoming environment. Tools such as flexible seating helps students regulate energy levels, it boost blood flow and oxygen to the brain, and it helps improve cognitive performance and sustained attention.
The Little Spot books help students understand and identify their feelings better. These books gives them the words to communicate how I can help them. Books and associated plushies help students grow comfortable asking for help.
