Career Research: Mirrors, Windows, and Sliding Glass Doors
Help me give my students a photo quality printer, high-quality photo paper, and poster boards so they can proudly present and celebrate their high-interest career research.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Mirrors, Windows, and Sliding Glass Doors is a career-centered journalism project designed to empower students with journalistic skills and meaningful connections to diverse career roles. This project will support a deeper understanding of the individual roles that support daily operations, including the challenges and the invaluable contributions employees contribute to their professions. This project encourages students to build empathy, broaden their career awareness, and strengthen essential communication skills as they engage with various professionals.
A photo printer and high-quality photo paper support the visual storytelling aspect of the project.
These tools will allow students to produce professional-quality photographs of the community members they interview, adding a personal and visual dimension to their written profiles. Poster boards will also create interactive displays that combine written narratives with their photos, allowing for a richer and more engaging presentation at our End-of-Unit Showcase.
The End-of-Unit Showcase will feature a “Wall of Fame,” where students’ work highlights each interviewee’s career journey and contributions to the school. This display not only honors the essential work of staff but also provides students with a mirror into potential career paths, a window into others’ experiences, and a sliding door to inspiration and career exploration. Our goal is to foster a supportive and inclusive culture where students feel embraced and inspired by the diverse community that surrounds them.
