My Students
I serve students in a self-contained autistic support classroom. The students in my class have diverse needs and require a high level of structure and evidence-based instruction and behavioral supports in order to achieve full potential. They come to school each day ready to be challenged to reach for the next bar, which looks different for each of them. Some of my students are learning to write their names. Others are learning names for common objects like shoes and pencil. Still, some others are working at-grade level and trying his or her very best during their inclusion time with their same-aged peers in regular education.
The students in my classroom deserve materials unique to their learning needs.
Each DonorsChoose project is selected with this in mind. A lot of times, the materials accessed through generous donations wouldn't be otherwise available to these students in any setting. For them, the materials we have in our classroom make a big difference!
My Project
Our middle school students with autism begin to explore a variety of new goals as they transition into adulthood. They need instruction that gets them thinking about their futures - high school and beyond. Our students each select an area that interests them and practice related skills to better prepare for more education, activities of daily living, and/or a career.
Our students require intensive, concrete, and practical approaches to learning.
These materials will allow them to sample skills in the retail career path. The materials will also allow students meaningful experience with simulated financial transactions they may experience at their communities.
