My Project

In my very first year of teaching, I had a student who got in trouble a lot. It was easy for others to focus on the behavior, but I knew there had to be more behind it. One afternoon, he shared with me that he didn’t have deodorant, didn’t have anything to brush his teeth with, and that the girls in his home didn’t always have pads. He wasn’t asking for anything. He was just being honest about what life looked like for him.

That moment changed how I saw my role as a teacher.

I realized some students walk into school carrying burdens they never speak about. Since then, I’ve been committed to creating a classroom where those needs can be met quietly and with care.

This project will help me build a Care Cart stocked with real essentials my students can use when they need them. Items like hair gel, combs, deodorant, period pads, heating pads, band-aids, and oral hygiene supplies. These aren’t extras. They’re basic tools that help students feel clean, calm, and confident.
