My Project

This year, our school decided to change up the elective classes that we offer by adding a STEM class to the rotation. By adding this class to our "specials" offering, we will be reaching students from pre-school all the way to fourth grade! Starting a new class requires a lot of planning and new resources. We are hopeful that with your help, we can acquire some of the items we need to help make this class, which the students are loving, a success for years to come.

So much of STEM is figuring things out-be that on your own, with a partner, or in a cooperative learning group.

Our kids are exploring and using parts of their brains that don’t get a lot of use with traditional classroom work, like worksheets. By adding all of the building sets, we hope to enrich our students and reach them in ways we haven’t previously been able to do.

Our goal in STEM class is to get the students working with manipulatives, off of screens, using their imaginations, working to solve problems, and trying out new ways of doing things.

Many of our students are afraid of making a mistake. By letting them build and create, we hope to foster a love for self-starting, taking initiative, and figuring things out, even if it takes them a few tries!

With all of the new items we’ve been purchasing and are asking for your help to purchase, we are in desperate need of better storage solutions. We would love to organize our items in cubes and on shelves so we see just what all we have!

Along with our building items, STEM sets, and storage items, we are hoping to hatch and raise butterflies to not only teach, but also show the kids the lifecycle process.
