Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our students are brilliantly resilient scholars who come from immigrant, blue collar working households close to downtown LA. Many of them attend school year round to catch up on reading and writing skills. These students tirelessly work toward fluency in English while continuing to persevere through the struggles of their community. The culture we are promoting at our school is college readiness through the use of AVID strategies such as physical organization, note taking, and paraphrasing. Students show up every day ready to tackle the days' objectives and build community with one another.
My Project
This project is inspired by Mr. F's project, "Creating Air Quality Maps of My Community." This hands-on project promotes the importance of knowing the air quality we all intake in our community.
The carbon dioxide increases the greenhouse effect.
As more heat is trapped by the atmosphere, the planet becomes warmer than it would be naturally. My students will create graphs using the meter readings from the carbon dioxide meter from this project. Students will take the readings as they walk home or go to a family event in the community. They will cut out the card stock paper with the information from the meter and glue it into their Science journals. They will use different colors of card stock to denote different days of the week. They will then share their findings with their classmates. The dry erase markers will help them demonstrate to their peers the days of the week, as they compare results. The sheet protectors will be used to organize information.
