Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The group of students that will benefit from this project are a group of students that have a love for writing. These students are interested in learning what it means to be a journalist and provide their school community with fact based information. They do not have very many opportunities to broaden their horizons outside of their daily lives and come from low income families.

These students have expressed a love for learning and have jumped at the opportunity offered to them to use a core subject in a creative way.

Each student that will benefit from this project is looking for a way to leave their finger print in the schools history. They want to be a part of something that will positively impact their school. These students are extremely talented and this project will help them in sharing their talent with their schools community.

My Project

Have you ever heard the phrase "Today's children, Tomorrows future"? This project is created with exactly that phrase in mind. As an educator, my main goal is to give students opportunities that they may not have otherwise. I have seen the talent for writing in my upper grade students. As a person, one of my favorite things to do is write, so of course when I saw this talent I saw an opportunity to further nurture my students and provide them with the chance to use their talent in a positive way. Therefore I am in the midst of developing a journalism club for the upper grade students in my school.

The photography materials for this project will provide students with a larger lens into what a journalists job is in the real world. It will provide them with the know how of what its like to be in the moment and capture a story through both words and pictures.

Technology is as much apart of today's society as walking and breathing is. I feel that having access to materials such as computers and cameras will be highly beneficial to my students

The mission of the Bulldog Gazette is to:

1. Stimulate discussion of current events and community affairs.

2. Bring BE students news and produce a school newspaper.

3. Promote continuing relationships with BE Students.

4. Develop skills in technology use.

5. Provide students with opportunities to grow in communication and written expression skills.

6. To encourage honesty and integrity in journalism.

7. To promote good citizenship and cooperation among its group members.

The use of the materials will further students knowledge of what its like to be a journalist. With these materials my students will be able to capture portraits for interviews and school events.
