My Students
I am a Homebased teacher for Richmond Public Schools. Our Homebased program consists of over 200 students home for a variety of reasons. My students are home based on disability, illness, unusual circumstances or even emotional crisis. Ironically COVID has placed us all at home and my students will be at a great risk due to not having personal visits. Richmond City is a Title I free lunch school system with federally funded support. Many of our resources are from donors like you. In fact for my program, we do not fall into the classroom resources so we have to supply our own resources from paper and pencils to actual technologies to support our students. I am happy to say that our system has provided computers and WiFi to all, now it is my job to keep their IEP current and come up with a unique online way to teach! With your help I am ready to roll!
My Project
I am choosing a document camera because my students range from Kindergarten to High School. When I am visiting homes I have noticed that children do not have access to resources in their homes. For example a magazine, a map, newspaper or even a picture on a wall. My students are all in need of quality visuals.
Usually I carry “An Imagination In A Box” and lots of hands on visuals and packets of materials which I bring along.
A document scanner will allow me to bring the world of pictures, charts, maps, art, numbers, and words right into their computers. This will be very helpful since many of our students do not have mastery of finding resources on the computer while working on a program. I will design these packets individually online and make sure they can access them on their google documents. I will also use them in our 1:1 sessions which would save valuable time!
Children all see their world differently, I want my students to see the world through many people’s eyes and views. I want them to explore our “New World” at home in the most positive way possible.
