This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My library is in a public inner city school. The students come from low income homes and 100% receive a free lunch. Students in my school cannot afford to buy books and depend on the school library to offer them books that are current and up to date. My students enjoy the books I can provide them on a weekly basis because many of their parents do not take them to the public library which is far away and because they don't have money to buy books. Many of my students are very appreciative when I can put new books in the library and are excited to check them out for the first time. I often hear "Thank you", or get a hug.
My Project
These books will continue to enhance the library with a wide variety of reading materials at various reading levels. The school library is a place that students really enjoy. I read on the carpet to them, they also read independently at tables or on pillow pets and bean bag chairs throughout the library! I teach students to treat books with love and care so we can keep our library and books in good condition, and they are thankful for the opportunities to read. I have chosen all of these books with my students in mind.
These new books will also allow my students to choose from a variety of books that will allow them to read independently at their own grade level.
Student will also be able to choose books that interest them. The best way to increase reading ability is to read more, and these books will continue to help my students grow stronger in reading. This project will only help enrich their experiences with the printed word.
