My middle school serves approximately one thousand students in sixth, seventh, and eighth grades. Our students are excellent scholars and are involved in many extracurricular activities.
Our students are very creative and innovative, and they want a space where they can express that creativity and innovation.
It is my goal to create a space for students that they will want to use, not only for assigned work, but for their own curiosities. They are looking for the tools they need to create high quality, twenty-first century products.
My Project
Middle school students live in a digital world. Their daily lives are consumed with apps like Snapchat and Instagram. They want to share a snapshot of their lives with others because they have something to say. Students want others to know who they are.
What if we could provide our students with the video production tools on a higher platform to tell their story?
What if these tools allowed our students to move beyond the snapshot and tell us what they really want us to know?
When I mentioned to some students that video production and editing might be possible this year, their eyes lit up. They were excited about the possibilities that these tools could provide them. The Canon Video Camera and Microphone, along with the SDXC card will capture these moments, to explain what they have learned, or simply use their creativity for comical entertainment. The green screen and lighting kit will introduce students to a more sophisticated video experience and teach them that video production involves more than just a camera. Our students want a way to tell their story. Will we watch and listen?
