Help me give my students an IPAD Air to use as a teaching tool in my classroom to videotape my students performing physical skills to see skill progression, receive feedback and praise their movement.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach Physical Education to a variety of intellectual students from Gifted, English Language Learners, Exceptional student population, and everything in between. My students are inquisitive and love hands-on activities. Many of my students live in high-rise buildings where there is limited green space for them to play or exercise. Academically, my students are high achievers. However, with such high demand on academic performance, little time is devoted to their physical development.
My quest is to teach them about staying fit so they can live long, healthy lives.
My Project
Since the pandemic started, many of my students have had limited opportunities to participate in sports or practice sport skills, due to mandates placed on the use of physical education equipment and social distancing.
Using the IPAD Air, I will teach my students different sport skills such as throwing and capture their trials and errors using the video function.
Once I video tape the process, I will show students their video to give them tips on how to improve their performance.
Allowing students to visually see where they correctly or incorrectly performed the skill is an extremely valuable learning tool. Just like the saying "a picture is worth a thousand words", words alone sometimes simply are not enough.
Additionally, I will use the IPAD Air to plan my lessons, group students into teams, take notes on students' progress, create rubrics for assessments and much more.
