My students need two digital cameras, a camera lens, two tripods, and two memory cards for our new technology portion of our curriculum. These will allow students a "hands on" opportunity in their learning.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
This year we have added a technology component to our curriculum where the students work hands on with different types of technology. Photography is one area the students are extremely interested in. We are hoping to create a yearbook, newspaper, as well as learning the basics of photography.
My students are absolutely amazing.
Our school is 100% free breakfast and lunch and made up of many English Learners. The students are eager to learn and take advantage of any opportunities given to them. Each morning, lunch time and after school I have students at my door anxious to come in and work on the projects they have started. The excitement I see in them with our new technology extension is a reminder of why I do what I do. Our school is a small school in a lower socioeconomic area. Our parents donate full days of their time to help their children succeed. We have a lot of programs to help involve our families and extend experiences to all. It is one of the most amazing schools you will ever visit. Students are kind and gracious. The staff is loving and dedicated. I would love to provide my students with cameras and be able to get a glimpse into how they view the world.
My Project
I am requesting two cameras to share amongst my students. With these cameras we will create a yearbook, a newspaper, a news broadcast, and many things I am sure we haven't even thought of yet. I have a photography background and I would love to be able to share some of my knowledge with them. I would like to teach them how to capture the moments in life and use them to create everlasting memories. I would also like to teach them how to look at things differently and how photos can add so much to a story, article, etc. I really think these cameras would make a huge impact on my students and we would be ever so grateful if we were granted them.
Many of our students do not have the opportunity to learn how to use such technologies.
By giving them these cameras to use, they will learn how to create experiences, memories, and it will be a learning experience they will use well outside the classroom. It will help give the students ownership over what they create and share with the school. It will be work they will have done and be proud of. I believe these projects will help build self confidence.
