My Students
The students in these classes are a diverse group from a multitude of backgrounds. Some are from families where they will be the first to attend college while others are from families where paying the monthly bills is a challenge.
All our students deserve an opportunity to create skills that they can take with them into the work force or to college.
These students are creative problem-solvers who enjoy the challenge of new ideas and project. They eagerly embraced the projects of our new journalism class and want to expand the projects in the future.
My Project
Next year will be the second year of our high school journalism class. The students (and I) have learned a lot of the basics of news reporting, journalism writing, photography, broadcast journalism, and social media. However, we are in need of a quality camera in order to stretch our learning, experiences, and projects.
We want to continue our monthly newspapers, daily social media updates, daily announcements, and weekly video broadcasts.
In order to improve upon these projects, we need to stop shooting pictures with our cell phones and practice with a real and professional camera.
The students will expand their photography skills outside the classroom and school day with this device in order to capture moments at sporting competitions, concerts, and spirit events throughout the school year. They will then be able to use those images to share with the community what is going on within our school as part of a service learning project that will span the school year.
