Capturing Memory: Bringing the Holocaust to Life Through Photography

My Project

This summer, I’ve been honored with a life-changing opportunity: I’ve been selected as a Fellow with the Auschwitz Legacy Foundation, where I will travel to Poland to visit Auschwitz, Krakow, and Warsaw. This is more than a professional development trip — it’s a personal mission.

When I was in eighth grade, I visited the Florida Holocaust Museum and met a Holocaust survivor.

That encounter changed my life and set me on a path to always fight for what is right and to never allow injustice to go unchallenged. As a teacher, I carry that promise into my classroom every day.

To help bring this experience home, I am requesting a Canon EOS R10 camera and accessories to document the trip. The images I take will help my students connect emotionally and intellectually to the Holocaust through visual storytelling. But this project goes beyond my classroom.

I am also working with the Pasco County School District to develop new instructional materials and content aligned to the state’s Holocaust education standards. The photography from this trip will be incorporated into district-wide curriculum, helping other social studies teachers engage students in meaningful discussions about the Holocaust and antisemitism.
