My Students
Technology is a wonderful asset to a child's education. Our school has been lucky enough to get technology funds to equip our classroom with some classroom computers and a printer. Now, we need a digital camera to take photographs for our year-long memory books.
I teach 15 first graders in a large, rural Title I elementary school located near the coast of South Carolina.
Most of these students come from low-income homes and do not have access to the technology that many of us consider common. They love to have their photos taken doing activities within the classroom and use their photos to illustrate their writing.
My Project
Having a digital camera in our classroom will allow me to take photographs as we do fun activities throughout the year. These photographs can be put into Word documents for the students to write about and put in their memory books. The photographs will allow the students to vividly recount the experience and write exciting and innovative stories. This will help to improve their writing skills as well.
This project will be very rewarding and educational for my students.
They will learn about the use of technology and they will also be able to improve their writing skills. Many of my students do not have access to technology outside of school and being able to use it here at school will better prepare them for their future.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
