We want to capture diversity! In our upcoming social studies unit, we would like to document diversity and cultural differences in our community.
My students are from a rural area.
They are an energetic group of first graders and very curious about the world around them. Many of them do not have technological support at home. They are very eager learners and love to use technology every opportunity they can get.
My Project
I am requesting a digital camera so that I can assign a homework assignment that I am sure they will love to complete. I would like to allow my students to take the camera home with them so that they can document diversity within their town and community. I will then develop their pictures and have them write about their experiences. We also need a pack of pencils, since our supply is extremely low.
Capturing diversity would be a really great experience for my students to realize that people are different.
This would be a hands-on lesson for my students. Even though our school is not very diverse in terms of ethnicity, our town would be a perfect place for my students to document different cultures and races. I would really appreciate your help in providing my students with a digital camera so they could record their images. It would be diversity through the eyes of a first grader.
