I want to give my students the professional tools to capture sports and school news for our school's paper, yearbook, social media, and website. This Panasonic Lumix S5II camera will allow them to practice taking professional-quality pictures. My students will be able to take pictures at powwows, sporting events, and community events. They will be able to document everyday life at our school and on the reservation.
My students harbor interests in photojournalism and also have artistic minds.
These tools will allow them to explore their talents and broaden their horizons. If one student finds their way behind a camera, then I will have completed my job as an educator by providing these students with the tools and knowledge to succeed.
My students are Native American. By fostering an interest in journalism and photojournalism, they might pursue either field as a career. This would bring diversity to media, as Native Americans are underrepresented in both of those fields. When minorities are underrepresented in a career field, their voices also go unheard. I want my students to have all the tools they need to succeed.
