Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students are thoughtful, expressive young artists who use visual art as a way to explore identity, build community, and share personal narratives. They come from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds, and many are multilingual learners or students with IEPs. In our visual arts studio, students engage in projects that require them to document, reflect, and present their creative processes. But currently, we lack the tools to do this with the professional quality their work deserves.
This project will provide our classroom with a Canon EOS Rebel T7 DSLR Camera Bundle, including the Canon EF-S 18–55mm lens, two 64GB SanDisk memory cards, a wide-angle lens, telephoto lens, 3-piece filter kit, and a full accessory kit.
This complete bundle will give students the opportunity to photograph their artwork, record their art-making process, and create visual storytelling projects. With multiple lenses and filters, students can explore technical photography skills such as composition, lighting, and depth of field, helping them understand how photographers—and artists—craft visual meaning.
This project supports the NYC Blueprint for Teaching and Learning in the Arts and the NYS Visual Arts Standards (VA: Pr4–6, Re7, Cn10). It also aligns with Culturally Responsive-Sustaining Education (CRSE) by empowering students to take control of how their work is seen and shared. Whether creating artist portfolios, photographing class exhibitions, or documenting collaborative installations, this camera bundle will allow students to curate and celebrate their own creative journeys with clarity and pride.
