My Students

My 5th and 6th-grade students are in my class because they have been labeled with a disability or learning challenge. I choose to be their teacher because too many times these students get dealt a bad hand through no fault of their own. I want to be a wild card in their life, and give them an opportunity that will inspire them to push through their challenges.

Often, the special education population gets the leftovers in schools, and I want to give them the opportunity to experience the best my school has to offer.

One of the ways I want to do this is by creating a classroom of individuality. I have created a classroom economy that will give the students the ability to practice life skills such as paying rent, using a debit card, and writing a check. Each week they will rent their seat in the classroom. Here is where you come in. I want them to have the wildest and most exciting seating available! Each unique and different so that will give them the opportunity to express themselves, and have a sense of belonging.

My Project

In the transition to remote learning this year, I want to provide my students with engaging and quality videos. I also want to set an example for teachers in my district.

This camera will help make videos that will capture the instruction in a clear definition and be an example for all.

One specific lesson I am excited to do with this camera is called Genius Hour. This is a semester long project where the students have to you come up with a creative solution to a problem in their community. The camera will be used to document their progress and to present their success for their final Ted talk like presentation.

When we are able to go back into the classroom, I will use the camera to support students’ projects and expand their creativity. Education is taking a turn, help my students and I take it in stride. Thank you again for your support.
