Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The beginning of the school year is a new start for every student. We are in dire need of high interest, relevant reading material that would help us to learn about science. A subscription to Super Science magazine would help us to do just that!

My kids are a wonderfully diverse bunch of fifth grade inner city kids, all of whom deserve the chance to succeed.

Our school is celebrating over one hundred twenty-five years of educational service to South Philadelphia families. We welcome, support and educate the children of the many ethnic groups who have recently entered the United States through the gateway of our neighborhood, while we continue to serve the third and fourth generations of earlier immigrants. We are a school wide project school with 100% of our students coming from economically disadvantaged families, and we are currently serving over five hundred children, grades kindergarten through six. The ethnic groups who are members of our school family include: 50% Asian, 10% African American, 14% Caucasian and 26% Latino.

My Project

In fifth-grade, my students no longer learn to read. Instead they read to learn. My students will read the Super Science magazines independently, in small groups, and in whole class discussions to improve their reading, math, and science knowledge. Research has shown that all students can learn when engaged. Scholastic offers high interest articles and activities about the world around them. Many articles contribute to lively class discussions and to the development of socially conscience opinions. Super Science magazine helps educators capture the excitement of science. Every issue is filled with incredible life, earth, and physical science topics that engage students.

Super Sciencce is an exciting way for students to learn about life, earth, and physical science concepts they need to know.

Each issue features exciting science current events and amazing photos that engage students and support the curriculum. It is wonderful to see the excitement in my students faces when we receive our monthly magazine from Scholastic. Research has shown that all students can learn when they are engaged. Won't you please help us get our hands on this wonderful resource?
