Captivating a Community One Book at a Time

Help me give my students a diverse collection of young adult books for our 8th grade English Language Arts class.

My Project

I work at a Title One middle school in El Cajon, CA. We are looking for current and diverse books to fill our classrooms bookshelves. Our students come from over 50 different countries and are tire of reading the same old books written by white men, about white men. One of the things I love most about my students is their thirst for knowledge. Even the students who resist a traditional class lesson perk up when I offer them 15 minutes of free reading time.

My students are interested in video games, refugee inspired stories, Stranger Things, Bullying topics and more.
