I usually start out by stating every year brings on a new challenge but that might be an understatement this year! I’m going from teaching kindergarten for 14 years to our new physical education teacher. Parents have reached out with excitement after hearing the news and I can’t wait to see my former students in a whole new setting. We have an amazing group of students at our school and being in Florida, we utilize our outdoor spaces. Our school recently added “outdoor classrooms” and we have an existing pavilion which is used for PE. We have also maintained our outside learning gardens for over 5 years now!
Our students and teachers are going to be faced with challenges we’ve never experienced before.
We are trying to provide the safest learning environment for our students and utilize our outdoor areas.
My Project
Our district is not allowing students to drink from our existing water fountains (they can only be used for refilling their water bottles). Not touching the mouth piece and pressing the button is a challenge for our younger students! Using a touch less system will make it easier for our K-6 students as well as our ESE students.
By installing a touch less water bottle refill station, this will eliminate a possible contact point for spreading germs.
I’m hoping this will take a little stress off the teachers, parents, and most of all the students.
