Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Each day, my students face challenges before they enter the school building, ranging from extreme poverty, single-parent households where the parent works multiple jobs, students with incarcerated parents, and many students who live in shelters. 

My school takes care of the whole child and when they are hungry it shows in their attitude and academic performance.

My Project

I am a middle school Social Worker in the South Bronx seeking funding for healthily snacks for my in-person students.

The school day is long and our in-person learners complain of hunger mid-day.

Due to Covid-19 protocols are students are required to remain in one seat for the entire day and their energy dips greatly in the afternoon hours.

I see the effects of this drop in energy emotionally as well as academically. They become distracted from lessons and their mood becomes more edgy. No one can function at their best when they are hungry.

Having healthy snacks to provide my students with in the afternoon will boost their performance in school.
