Candy Land Reading

Help me give my students cellophane bags, pool float, cupcake mat, and other supplies to create a Candy Land transformation to support our new reading standards.

My Project

I'm excited to put together this project as I am going to base it upon our new reading power standards. This school year we have developed new reading targets that I would like build upon and use this transformation as an extension of their learning as this will be a new transformation added to our teacher toolbox. Students will move through stations proving knowledge of each standard. The Candy Land theme seems to be a motivational theme that my students are interested in after giving an interest survey on transformations or themes that they would like to see come to life. The floats and backdrops such as the cupcake, castle, candy and the pails that will be turned into jellybeans will be used as decorations at each station that symbolize the 8 characters in the Candy Land game. Each station will have students complete a different reading standard. As I have continued to create or put together transformations, I have noticed the motivation and scores increase because they are motivated to do the work when it is based on a transformation or an idea that they are another person solving a skill.
