My Students
In a school district with low funds and outdated technology, I am striving to keep my students on the cutting edge. This past summer, DonorsChoose.org helped me bring a set of Chromebooks into the classroom and my students went from crawling to running.
Since we started using the Chromebooks, my classroom has really transformed.
Students come into the classroom and actively learn material while also preparing for the world outside our four walls. We've gone from lectures and notes to interactive projects where my students are teaching each other.
In December, I was fortunate to participate in the Google Teacher Academy. As one of fifty teachers selected, I flew out to Texas and spent a few days in intense professional development where I learned more about what we could do with the Chromebooks.
I am constantly looking for ways to improve my teaching practices that will allow my students the best opportunities and experiences I can provide.
My Project
I am requesting funds to attend the annual ISTE (International Society for Technology in Education) conference. Each year, this conference is held in a different city and I am lucky enough to live in the host city, Philadelphia, for 2015.
This conference is packed with back to back workshops and panels where I can learn new and cutting edge ways to prepare my students for the future.
The skills and ideas I receive from this conference will immediately impact my students when we return to school in the fall.
This project will help make a difference because it will help me make direct contact with other educators from around the country.
Even after the conference is over, I will be able to use these connections to continue to grow my abilities as an educator.
