My Students

All day long my students ask, "Can you sharpen my pencil?" Unfortunately, I have to tell them that I can't because the pencil sharpener has broken. Again. We need a reliable pencil sharpener that can handle the volume of pencils used in a second grade classroom.

I have 25 enthusiastic and creative second grade students.

They love coming to school and are eager to learn. Our school has over 1,100 students from pre-k to eighth grade. It is a Title 1 school, which means than many of my students' families are living below the poverty line. Approximately 85% of the students receive free lunch.

My Project

In second grade we use pencils all day long for reading, writing, math, science, social studies, and more! However, right now when our pencils break, we have to rummage through the classroom looking for a sharpened pencil or run across the hall to borrow another classroom's sharpener. What a waste of time! I have bought several different electric pencil sharpeners in the past and none have been able to stand up to the quantity of pencils that my students need sharpened on a daily basis. This electric sharpener is designed for steady, all-day use so we won't have to worry about overloading or breaking it. With it, we will be able to easily sharpen pencils and make much better use of classroom time. Not only will my students this year benefit from it, but so will students for many years to come!
