My Students

Working in a low-income school district, my students are faced with several challenges both inside and out of the classroom. Due to the many challenges they face, I strive to keep a high energy and fun learning classroom, allowing them to experience new things.

As their music teacher, I am constantly providing them with upbeat, fun and exciting opportunities they may not necessarily experience otherwise.

They love to sing, dance and play instruments, but we are very limited with our resources. I would love to be able to improve their music education and performance experience by giving them basic tools to help them succeed.

“Music has the power of producing a certain effect on the moral character of the soul, and if it has the power to do this, it is clear that the young must be directed to music and must be educated in it.”

– Aristotle

My Project

Throughout the course of the year, my students perform at least seven times... Different assemblies, concerts, recruitment strategies, it's great! Most importantly, these students are SO animated and SO in to performing. It is so amazing to experience and I won't lie... eight times out of ten it even makes me tear up.

The worst part of having my 60-70 piece chorus however, is that I have no where to fit them.

I mean yeah, they fit comfortably enough in my music classroom to rehearse, but when they get to perform for others they are either squished on the "stage" or awkwardly standing in lines where too many of their faces are covered up, they can't see my to conduct and their sound easily gets muffled.

By giving them the opportunity to stand on risers to both practice AND perform, I feel that they would have a much higher confidence level, look and act more professional and be even more proud of their end results in front of their peers, teachers and families.
