My Students
Do you remember racing on the playground in elementary school? Do you remember thinking that you needed to lean forward so you could run faster? My students are learning these motion and design concepts now.
My school is located in rural South Carolina.
We are at a school that in former days could have provided me with the extra "hands-on" learning tools that I need, but with budget cuts, these creative dollars have been cut too. My students are 5th graders who are very excited about learning Motion and Design in Science and I want them to be able to visit these concepts in a hands on manner through out the year.
My Project
I have developed a unit of study that the students will using the K'NEX sets. I need these sets so the students can discover aerodynamics that goes with motion and design. The unit details things such as making cars that work, making cars that work and carry loads and cars that can use paper sails to work. This unit of study helps, and these hands on tools will even better help, my students learn about engineering and also alternative fuel ideas.
This project will impact my students in many ways.
The students will be continually using the K'NEX throughout the year, even after we have finished the unit, to keep exploring the way a design effects the motion and speed of an object.
