Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The advanced digital media arts students at my Arts and Technology college-prep high school for first generation college-bound students are great at designing and writing on computers. But, we don't have the budget to purchase toner for our laser printer so that they can print their work.
As their Digital Media Arts teacher, I am charged with the task of designing rigorous, college-prep projects that also inspire the creative, technical, and critical minds of my students.
Other school leaders and students constantly visit our little campus to see the gains our students prove through their application of technology, science, math, and the humanities at our blockbuster exhibition nights.
My Project
I hope we become a "Chevron Classroom Challenge" winning classroom. Without your support, my students won't have the ability to print their projects for much of the year. When the toner of our printer runs out, it will be prohibitively expensive to replace. This means that their artist statements, essays, designs, posters, and other projects won't get off the computers and onto paper. As you know, printing is essential to a school or workplace. In addition, I would like to make sure all of my students' digital work stays safe by saving it to a large external hard drive. We all know how horrible it is when a computer dies and we don't have a back up of our work.
