Do you remember what elementary school was like for you? In most cases, teachers taught to the whole class - and either you got the concept or you got left behind. Fortunately, times have changed and teachers now focus on teaching small groups of their students instead of the whole class!
I am a first grade teacher in the suburbs of Western PA.
I teach 21 incredible kids who never fail to put a smile on my face! My kids are all very different - I have some who are reading chapter books and some who are still working on learning the letters of the alphabet. This is why small group instruction is vital! When I teach to small groups of my students, I am better able to meet individual needs. I can challenge students who pick up content quickly while intervening with students who need extra time on particular skills.
My Project
I am requesting a large U-shaped table for our classroom. We currently use a small round table for group instruction. However, we don't all fit at this table - it's just too tiny! With a U-table, I will be able to be close to each of my students in the group. Simultaneously, I will be able to monitor their work and progress. This table is a critical piece of equipment that is considered a necessity in most primary-level classrooms.
This project is important because it will help me to maximize the time I have in small group with my students.
We will be able to fit the entire group and our materials at the table. We hope you consider donating to our project! Thank you!
