Hello! Who doesn't love a story read to them? Well....my students LOVE it and would like to hear more stories!
I'm a Special Education Learning Disability Resource Teacher for grades K through 5 in a school on the East Side of Chicago. My students disabilities are all LD related in the areas of reading and math. I use as much outside resources as needed to help them understand concepts and are always looking for ways to help enhance their lives and go beyond their disability.
My students love to read, but due to their disability are not yet able to read books at their grade level. Some of my students do not have adults at home to help them read novels or short chapter books and become frustrated because they cannot read the same books as their peers.
My students LOVE having stories read to them and they would just LOVE being able to read/listen to them at home by themselves. That's where you come in! I would like to purchase 5 tape Walkmans and 5 Discmans for my students to use in school and at home to help them comprehend what they read, and read with understanding and fluency. I feel that this will help my students become successful readers and encourage them to read more often, not to mention being able to read the same books their peers are reading.
By helping me with this project, you can help students with disabilities go beyond their potential and give them the encouragement to read and feel successful.
