Do you remember when you discovered performing and how much it meant to you? These students have found a home performing and they deserve equipment to make their performances accessible to all members of the audience.
My students come from middle-class families who attend a small charter preparatory school.
Their parents want the best for them. Our academic standards are high and they work hard for the grades they receive. Many go on to community college and eventually, a four year school. Some of them have discovered their talents lie in the performing arts. We have small, but active, drama and music programs, but performances must take place off-site or outdoors. The orchestra is small so they have to rely on their talent, not their numbers. The drama students are enthusiastic and talented but some are more movie actors than stage actors and have voices to match. Help these students be heard!
My Project
My students need 2 wireless audio delivery systems since they perform outdoors and ambient sound as well as small voices for some students make performances difficult to hear. I am working through DonorsChoose.org and other types of school donations to build a portable sound system so that where ever the students perform they will have mics, amplification, and a speaker system so that their voices can be heard, and their performances enjoyed. I anticipate using these resources in the classroom as well, to develop presentation and public speaking skills, as well as for other events, such as sporting events, award presentations, and graduation ceremonies.
When the school is very small, students receive much needed individual attention, but the budget doesn't stretch to include the extras larger schools take for granted, such as sound systems.
This equipment will impact students this year and for years to come as we continue to build these performing arts programs.
