This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Hi! I am the teacher of a class full of 30 bright and independent 3rd grade scholars! The scholars in my class come from the inner city of Chicago, and most receive free or reduced-price lunch. Our charter school serves scholars in grades K-6 and provides the academic foundation to earn a college degree. With this in mind, scholars are pushed to their limits and given rigorous academic work and feedback to prepare them for success. We are a Level 1 plus school and pride ourselves on having high standards and expectations for our scholars!
To break the cycle of poverty, college readiness is crucial.
These scholars are exposed to many things at such a young age. Coming from such low income backgrounds, these children are denied crucial necessities like technology. Communicating with the outside world in this day and age is something these children need to experience. Through technology, my scholars will be able to communicate, conduct research, and see the world in a whole new way!
My Project
My students do not have a class set of headphones. Our class had a few headphones but they all broke, and the scholars are not able to utilize the talk-text feature. My scholars need a class set of headphones so they can listen to Lexia and other online student-friendly educational websites.
My struggling students need these headphones to help them learn how to read and write.
A large majority of my students have trouble reading and need things read to them online. My scholars who struggle would benefit from these headphones. It is often distracting to have 10 students listening to computers without headphones, and it can get too overwhelming for the ones that need help focusing.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
