This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Imagine what your life would be like if you have a cognitive disability. For my students, this is their reality. They are young adults with moderate to severe cognitive disabilities, ranging from autism to intellectual disability. Their disabilities have an impact on their ability to learn and to acquire the skills needed for competitive employment.
According to the Department of Labor, people with disabilities are more likely to be unemployed as compared to their non-disabled peers.
One reason for this discrepancy might be that many people with disabilities lack the skills to gain employment.
Knowing this information, the programs at my school are designed to support the development of employment/vocational skills in conjunction with teaching the students the necessary independent and social skills so that they are able to obtain employment. My program focuses on providing students with hands-on, real-world skills to help them gain competitive employment.
My Project
My students have done a great job adapting to distance learning. They consistently show up to our Zoom meetings every day. I think largely because they enjoy interacting with their friends and participating in class discussions.
However, sometimes computer echo and background noises interfere with the students' Zoom meeting experience, and I feel that having headphones with a mic would reduce the unwanted noises and encourage students to continue to participate.
Having the Hi-Fi headphones with a mic would create a better meeting experience for my students by giving them the ability to hear clearly without the disruption of unnecessary noises. Specifically, these headphones will help to reduce echo and unwanted noises.
