Help me give my students headphones allowing them to focus in class and block out any noise that can cause a distraction. By providing headphones, my students will be able to interact with their peers and teachers.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Teaching is something I love to do. I am a Special Education teacher for middle school students. I have the pleasure of working with many different students (many of which were my students from previous years).
Many of my students come from a single-parent household where their parents must work long hours in order to make ends meet.
This year our learning situation is very different from other years. Currently, we are working remotely and making the best out of the situation we are in.
My students live in the South Side of Chicago in a predominantly Spanish-Speaking neighborhood that has been plagued with violence for many years. It is an area where their parents are able to afford an apartment, even if it means living in a neighborhood that is dangerous. My students have been exposed to different situations that have been traumatic, but they continue to strive for something better. What I love about my students is that even though they have been exposed to violence at such a young age, they still come to school with such a positive attitude and a desire to learn.
My Project
This school year is like none other! Remote learning is the way my students are receiving their education and it can be extremely challenging. With all the expectations that my students have, they need to have the necessary tools to be able to succeed and focus during remote learning.
Many of students are trying to find a quiet place in their house that will allow them to listen as I teach and be able to participate when called upon.
The majority of my students are using technology that was provided by the school, but they do not have headphones. I believe that if my students have headphones, they will be able to focus in class and tune out any distractions that are happening at home while they are participating in remote learning. Allowing my students to fully engage in remote learning and continue receiving the education they need.
