My Students
Gorham, Maine is a fast growing community, between urban cities and rural towns. Teachers, and families and the community work hard to create a learning environment for all students. Students work hard with traditional reading and writing. Oral sharing and participating is a big part of the daily activities in a classroom.
A chance to be heard, for everyone in class, even the shy ones.
As a Technology Integrator, I work with all the classrooms in the three elementary schools in Gorham to encourage the thoughtful use of technology, and the ease of teacher comfort and integration of these new ideas.
My Project
Do you remember being in an elementary school classroom and being reluctant to speak up and to be heard by the whole class? I was that shy student. Sitting at a desk, alone among many, I didn't want to raise my hand.
So let's make it fun to be heard in class!
All students in a class should be heard!
My project is a fun microphone within a ball that students could hold while speaking, and the whole class could hear everyone's voice. The soft ball containing the microphone could be tossed or passed from student to student in the classroom throughout the day. Even the teacher could participate.
As a technology integrator, I work with many classrooms. In one second grade room earlier this year, during circle time, students were taking turns and sharing, except for one reluctant student. It about broke my heart. If they had had a QBall to use in this classroom and to pass around, even this shy student may have been excited to participate and have her voice be heard by all.
This little sound system of a QBall and speaker could easily be shared and moved from classroom to classroom, helping and inspiring students, in more than one classroom, and hopefully encouraging other teachers to increase their appreciation of technology.
