My Students

Be our hero! We need a new listening center and books on CD to listen to during center time.

My students are 5 and 6 year old children that are full of excitement and energy.

They need "high interest" and engaging materials to use during center time in my kindergarten classroom. Our school is over 85% free or reduced lunch status and we have a very high mobility rate. They come from many diverse backgrounds. Many of them have no books of their own and several have never heard a story read to them before they come to school. Can you imagine life without hearing great stories???

My Project

They NEED to hear stories to know what reading "sounds" like and they need to be excited about learning to read on their own. Books on CD will give them this opportunity. Using a CD player and multiple copies of good literature stories during center time will enable them to hear fluent reading and keep them engaged in learning while I am meeting with small groups of students. Multiple copies of each story will ensure that all students can see the story (without arguing) and be able to hold their own book while hearing it!

Giving to this project will help my students become excited about reading!

They will be able to hear great stories over and over again. Using these materials daily will ensure that this class (and many more to come) will enjoy listening to books on CD and I will be able to teach more students during center time!
