My Students
As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences. When they come into my theatre classroom it becomes a world that has no restrictions on them. They are allowed to be themselves and understand that they will be loved here regardless of who they are.
They show me every day that what makes an effective teacher is someone who personally invests in their students.
These kids are hungry for someone to care about them and to help them see their self-worth. That is why I am in this profession, these kids need heroes and sometimes just sometimes instead of capes, they have chalk stained hands.
My Project
My students are some of the most artistic and driven individuals that I have had the pleasure of working with. They push each other and me to be our best at all times. We are about to begin our Production season and this year the only thing that they want the most is a communication system between the backstage crew and the crew in the tech booth. We are a busy Performing Arts facility with 4-6 concerts, 2 major plays, a musical, and numerous assemblies. In the past, we have used cellphones and cheap walkie-talkies to make this happen and it was too no-avail. Cellphones aren't reliable and the walkie-talkies would drop signal. This system will push them to the next level that they so desperately want to be at.
By purchasing this communication system we are not only working to elevate our productions but help to train my students for the world beyond the walls of Del City High School.
My desire is to provide my students will the very best opportunities that I can afford. With your help, we can make the dream a reality. This will enhance our productions, our Performing Arts Center, and our artistic vision as a Theatre company.
