My Students

"I can't hear!" That is heard repeatedly in my room during learning centers! I have to go adjust the headphones, turn the wires threading through the headphones, and play with the connections. This is frustrating for the children and interrupts my small group teaching.

My students attend an elementary school that is a Title 1 school with 83% of our children qualifying for the free or reduced lunch program.

Like most five and six year old children, they have little experience with computers but my students have even less experience because they come from families that do not have computers or other technology in their homes. By giving my students experience learning on the computer while using a computer program they can learn specific skills. It also introduces them to technology they will use for the rest of their lives.

My Project

I am asking for headphones that will allow my children to hear in both ears and be comfortable with the padding cushioning their ears from the hard plastic. This will also make them more successful on the program while they are learning. The splitter will also allow me to work with an individual student on a specific skill. I will be able to hear what they are hearing and teach them what they need to do. I chose one computer program with the characters from the Miss Spider books. This series of books have been a favorite for my children over the years.

The new headphones will be such an improvement in my computer center.

The children will be less frustrated having to use broken headphones. I will gain valuable teaching time by not having to adjust headphones every center rotation. The students that need individual attention using the computer will benefit from the headphone splitter cord because I will be able to help them.
