My 4th grade class is made up of 29 curious, chatty, and oh so fantastic students! Our elementary school is in a suburb of a large city in Indiana. You would think we have it all together here, right? The issues many of my students face are quite challenging. Nearly 80% receive free or reduced-price lunch and free breakfast before school. Many come from families that struggle to provide basic financial and emotional needs.
When they come into my classroom, they become my own children!
We listen and talk in our classroom about real life. We encourage and build each other up. All of this occurs in addition to the rigors of 4th grade curriculum!
My Project
Technology is essential in the classroom. There are three fourth grade classes in our school. We share one laptop cart among our three classes. While this is challenging, there is an even greater need for my classroom.
The need for quality headphones to use with our laptops is vitally important.
We use our laptops, daily, for math, science, reading, and writing! Students are asked to provide their own ear buds, but I find these are all broken after a few weeks of school. High quality headphones that can be wiped down after each use would benefit my students year after year.
More than half of students from low‑income households
