My Students
Jersey City is an urban area overflowing with students from various non-English speaking countries. Most of these students are economically disadvantaged and have very little exposure to literature in their homes.
Even under these circumstances, my students come to school extremely motivated and eager to learn.
My students love reading and try their best to grow everyday.
My goal is to provide my students with digital reading materials that will model the English language, reading fluency, and help build vocabulary.
My Project
The more you read the more you grow!
As the Library Media Specialist at PS 17, it is my responsibility to expose my students to interesting and meaningful text that will enrich their learning experience.
Since most of my students have difficulty reading the English language, borrowing traditional books has not made the impact that I would like. My goal would be to provide my students with small group instruction, along with the Kindles, to allow the students the opportunities to listen to stories read aloud which will model fluency and increase comprehension. Although I read daily to my students, the Kindles will allow them to select books that interest them individually.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
