This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"Teacher, I can't hear the sound!" That's a familiar cry in my room, where we lack quality, durable headphones to help students better utilize classroom technology.

I teach in an urban school in an impoverished neighborhood.

All of my students received free or reduced-price lunch, and many speak Spanish at home. Few of my students have access to technology at home, which means that time on the computer or iPad is a highly-coveted treat that fully engages students in their learning.

My Project

We have a problem: We don't have quality headphones to help us use our classroom technology to its fullest extent. After ancient pairs of headphones fell apart, students were left to use the computers and iPads without them. This means that, today, students don't get any sound on the computers (they don't have speakers, either!) and that our small set of iPads has sound going all the time, causing distractions for both the iPad users and the students who are reading and doing other tasks. With several pairs of headphones, my students will be able to fully listen to and engage with technology. My students are largely ELLs, and most benefit from auditory learning and reinforcement through sound. These headphones will allow my students to listen to books read aloud, watch educational video clips, and conduct research without interrupting the learning of others.
