This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am the School and Community Support Site Coordinator at Wish Museum School in North Hartford, CT. Part of my role is to assess student and school needs and identify the appropriate resources. Our school is located in what many consider an undesirable part of the City and due to this, many of our students have experienced some level of trauma.

As a School community, we try our very best to address the social and emotional needs of our students.

Understanding that if students don't feel secure and safe at school it will impact their learning.

My Project

This project will address the students social and emotional needs by allowing staff to respond in a timely manner. Many of our students have experienced some level of trauma and the symptoms of that experience tend to manifest themselves during the school day. Hence, impacting their academics and ability to focus in class. Having 2-way radios will allow staff to respond to crisis in a timely manner and prevent the loss of instructional time. Lastly, due to the fast paced environment of a K-8 school, this form of communication will allow support staff to communicate throughout the day to ensure all are aware of the issues throughout the day.
