Dear Donor,
I am a second grade teacher working in a high-need community school. My students are assigned to a special education bilingual class setting.
My classroom has a lovely new radio that plays CDs and cassettes, but our junction box (where we could plug in more than one headphone), no longer works. It had been a hand-me-down to begin with but it used to be that 3 of the junctions worked, but now none of them do. Our class also inherited some headphones last year, that were functional (although some did not work on one side or the other). It would be so nice to have working headphones (especially ones with volume controls). The volume controls help those children who are very sensitive to loud noise or those who have hearing problems to find a happy medium.
Unfortunately, because we have not been able to use the headphones, our beautiful new radio has not been used much as a center (although I do use it to play books aloud or for the FM radio at times). I tried playing books aloud on the radio to groups for center time, but find that it distracts the other children.
Having the volume control junction box and the working headphones would really help these children enjoy their time at the listening center.
