Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a second grade, bilingual special education teacher working in a high-need community school in the Bronx, NY.
Our classroom listening center cassette radio broke down a few weeks ago and began tearing apart my listening center tapes. We use our listening center to reinforce the students' reading skills. I have many auditory learners that learn new words by hearing them as they track the words in the books.
The students need a CD and cassette player so they can listen and learn to read the stories I have purchased for the classroom listening center.
Until now, I have had books on CD that I had to play to 1 or 2 children at a time on my classroom computer as the radio only played cassettes. With this new radio, I can play the book to four children at a time, which will allow for more social interaction after when they discuss the book.
These students need to hear books on tape and on CD. They need their skills reinforced as much as possible and supporting this proposal will ensure that they will be able to do that.
