My students need 4 Lego robotic sets and a Microsoft Surface Pro to control the robots. This will inspire their creativity and encourage them to seek career opportunities in technology and engineering.
I teach at a magnet school focusing on the sciences as well as the arts. The students here are very interested in science and love to ask questions and design experiments to gather deeper understanding. Many of my students come from underprivileged homes because our school is a Title I school. They are very interested in gardening, engineering and design, and keeping the school environmentally friendly.
Combining our schools themes of art and sciences with projects that focus on engineering and design, is crucial for the vision and mission of our school.
My Project
The Lego kits and Microsoft Surface Pro will help encourage the students in my school to be creative with their problem solving strategies. I will be using these kits in multiple grades with at least 60% female students.
Females are not as likely to enter STEM careers and I would like to do my part to change that.
Students will participate in activities that will challenge them to think outside the box and work with other students to solve real world problems. I will form several teams throughout the year that will go to the district robotics competition to display what they learned and also to learn from others.
