Help me give my students a chance to create a terrarium. This experiment will provide hands-on experience with engineering, microbiology, water, carbon, nitrogen cycles, and stewardship. We will need a glass container, pebbles, charcoal, succulents, and moss.
The fourth quarter will be filled with opportunities for students to connect the concepts learned throughout the year. Students will use the Biology concepts learned to build a sustainable ecosystem or terrarium with the requested kits, plants, jars, and digital activities from TPT.
This experiment provides hands-on experience with plants, their growth requirements, and an understanding of photosynthesis, cellular respiration, the water cycle, the carbon cycle, and the nitrogen cycle.
Students will use engineering to research design and construct a terrarium. Planning and constructing a terrarium will propel students through innovative and creative thinking in problem-solving throughout this experiment.
Students will apply mathematical concepts such as measurement and data analysis to monitor and maintain the terrarium assessing the sustainability of the terrestial ecosystem.
Building a terrarium as a student can integrate various STEM disciplines and provide a holistic learning experience that fosters critical thinking, creativity, and scientific inquiry.
